Geometric-Patterned Brocade Baby Sling

Baby-carrying strap, also named back carrier and qiang in ancient times, is the cloth for carrying babies on the back. Lots of minority women in Guilin have the custom of making embroidered baby-carrying straps for carrying babies. There is a special connotation of straps, which is "being handed down through generations". A baby-carrying strap is generally stitched by the baby's grandmother in person at the baby's completion of its first month of life. It is handed down by the grandmother to the mother and then to the daughter and is utilized through the infancy of a child. Thus such a strap is not only of practical use, but also is the carrier of national culture and embodiment of a mother's blessings for her child. Baby-carrying straps are still widely used in Guilin today.
