The "Bird of Peace" Gilded Bone-china Dish
The former President of the US Nixon made the first visit to China in February, 1972. The US and China jointly published Joint Communique in Shanghai. Relationship between the two countries ushered in the normalized process. During his visit to China, President Nixon presented Chairman Mao Zedong with a national gift --- the bone-china "Bird of Peace" made by the famous Boehm Porcelain of New Jersey of the US and this customized gilded bone-china dish with the pattern of "Bird of Peace" in front of us.
The dish is painted with two adult swans and three young swans that are playing in the lotus pond, which symbolize a happy and joyous family. Swan can be counted as one of the favorite auspicious animals of the American people. It is said that swan can bring happiness and luck to human beings. The "Bird of Peace" is not only the envoy of peace and friendship, but was embedded with President Nixon's expectation of Sino-US friendship.
